about

I linked up with Freestyle Fellowship co-founder Myka 9 for what is perhaps the most laid-back hip-hop cut of 2019: G.T.F.O.H. (feat. Myka 9).

Myka 9 was recently featured in the Netflix series 'Hip Hop Evolution', and he has worked with a host of artists ranging from Cut Chemist to The Wailers, Talib Kweli and many more. He has directly influenced rap legends from Busta Rhymes to Snoop Dogg with his rapid-fire, jazz-influenced, melodic vocal style. His voice is undoubtedly one of the most distinctive in the game, as is recognized by greats who have attained mainstream success.

I linked up with Myka 9 in Los Angeles in Leimert Park in the Spring of 2018 and we went to a cipher where I played my beats for local mcees to rap over. I have since produced beats for a project with Myka 9, the Prophetic Vision EP, recently released by Hip Hop Medicine. G.T.F.O.H. marks the first official Myka 9 feature released under my name.

lyrics

You need to go
Whether you gotta make an exit
Or in business or a relationship rejection
You gotta go gotta go gotta go
You ain’t even got to go home
But you gotta get the fuck up out of here
Now they say it makes room for something better
Out there
And the trick is being open to what’s better
Like that dough
Don’t let it hit you where the dog should have bit you
G.T.F.O.H.

You need to go
Get the fuck up out of here
And I hope you hear me loud and clear
You need to go
Check on your peoples and your peers
Jump in an Uber take a leer
You need to go
Running them routes and blocks you spin
Instead your mouth on my oxygen
You need to ghost, roll, bounce, skate
Jam, split, jet, motivate

It’s 2 AM and the bar is closed
It’s 2 PM and the after hours slows
But he’s still blowing dough
Asking for more to drink and more to smoke
Why didn’t he listen to his folks?
Nobody was laughing at his jokes
And then they said it’s time to roll
And he said no
While he’s spraying what he’s saying
Literally spitting at these hoes
One minute from getting packed by them bros
Who’s gritting their teeth by the back door
I hope he don’t try to go hands with them
When I know his reactions are slow
He’s worn out his welcome and only god can help him
So the house ordered a Lyft to pick him up
Before them shotties melt him
He’s headed into a tail spin but he thinks he’s fly
I’m glad somebody at the party called him a car
So he don’t drink and drive
There’s nothing nice about and angry drunk at a function
Just like the person who spiked the punch at a luncheon
He’s the one swerving
Turning the ladies off with his thirst
I hopped up and said
Low-key, you need to go, before shit gets worse

You need to go
Get the fuck up out of here
And I hope you hear me loud and clear
You need to go
Check on your peoples and your peers
Jump in an Uber take a leer
You need to go
Running them routes and blocks you spin
Instead your mouth on my oxygen
You need to ghost, roll, bounce, skate
Jam, split, jet, motivate

If I know one thing
You need to go like Good Will Hunting
Get up outa your hometown
And go and live for something
Hop off the merry go round
From your childhood playground
Pack it up and get up out
Hop up on a greyhound
A lot my friends OD’d and wound up face down
Laced out with the H another court case bound
Now they going nowhere and it's really no fair
Cuz their family didn’t care and society didn’t share
It’s all a horse race
You need to go like it’s a car chase
Find a place with space
Before you go cray like scar face
I know you feel you jaded
When your cards ain’t well played
But I’m about to witness you change and get well trained
You need to go
Like you skating down to Venice
You need to go
Like the former host of the apprentice
You need to go
When the people close to you don’t lift you higher
Need to go
Evacuate like there’s a wild fire

You need to go
Get the fuck up out of here
And I hope you hear me loud and clear
You need to go
Check on your peoples and your peers
Jump in an Uber take a leer
You need to go
Running them routes and blocks you spin
Instead your mouth on my oxygen
You need to ghost, roll, bounce, skate
Jam, split, jet, motivate

And the trick is being open
To what's better
